Network Rail Major Redevelopment
Flat to Pitch & Cladding
One of the largest projects undertaken by our Group was the roofing and cladding of a series of network rail buildings that formed part of the major redevelopment of Reading Railway Station.
We had two tasks, the first task was forming flat to pitch structures on top of Portacabins modules and covering them with standing seam aluminium.
The Dibsa structure came as pre-fabricated line loaded trusses supplied in manageable sections to allow ease of loading and quick installation.
The second task was the wall cladding and consisted of a Dibsa Structure Vertigrid system which provides tolerance and support to the face fixed Trespa Cladding. Works were carried out using powered access to a high standard resulting in Trespa giving us approved contractor status, one of only 4 in the North East of England at the time.
On both tasks working at the side of a live busy railway line meant we had to overcome all the risks associated with the sector.
We had to obtain permits to work, liaise with crane companies, main contractors and other sub-contractors to complete this major redevelopment. This involved delegation and problem solving of our on-site management team.
The whole network rail project was carried out without traditional scaffold. We designed a handrail solution that connected to the Dibsa Structure Ltd allowing a one-stop solution. All our operatives are leading edge trained allowing works to be done using lifelines and harnesses.
